Citrus Heights News Briefs: Sunrise Mall plan, retirement, theft, re-election

Latest local news briefs include a re-election announcement in next year’s City Council race, plans for redeveloping Sunrise Mall moving forward, retirement of a senior city staffer and a resident reportedly losing $2,500 after his wallet was stolen.

Retiring Community Development Director recognized by Planning Commission
Colleen McDuffee, the city’s outgoing Community Development Director, who has worked for the city since 2000, was recognized for her years of service during the Planning Commission’s Oct. 20 meeting. She is credited for her efforts in developing the city’s first General Plan as well as contributing to the adoption of the Auburn Boulevard Plan, Stock Ranch Guide for Development, and other projects. She has been replaced by Casey Kempenaar, who formerly served as planning manager for the city.

Plan to redevelop Sunrise Mall moves forward
The Citrus Heights Planning Commission voted unanimously on Wednesday to recommend the City Council approve the Specific Plan for guiding redevelopment at Sunrise Mall, along with recommending approval of a 4,000 page Environmental Impact Report and associated re-zoning of the site and General Plan updates. The commission’s approval will be forwarded to the city council for a final vote later this year.

Citrus Heights man loses $2,500 in cash after theft of wallet
Gold Country Media reported last week that a 39-year-old Citrus Heights resident reported a theft on Tara Court in Rocklin after his wallet containing his driver’s license, $2,500 in cash and debit and credit cards was stolen. (See crime logs)

Vice Mayor announces re-election campaign
Citrus Heights Vice Mayor Porsche Middleton, who was first elected in 2018, announced on social media she will be seeking re-election next year. She also posted photos from her first campaign fundraiser at the Community Center, held on October 21.
