Citrus Heights News Briefs: lemonade stand, DUI arrests, obituary

Latest local news briefs includes a 9-year-old boy from Citrus Heights raising money for his motocross activities through a weekly lemonade stand, police arresting a pair of drivers on suspicion of DUI during a weekend checkpoint, and an obituary for a 91-year-old longtime resident.

9-year-old Citrus Heights motocross racer hosts lemonade stand
Good Day Sacramento on Friday interviewed a 9-year-old from Citrus Heights who has been funding his motocross racing activities by setting up a weekly lemonade stand. The boy, Matt, said he has been able to purchase several motorcycles by selling lemonade and recycling cans. (See video)

DUI Checkpoint nets two arrests
The Citrus Heights Police Department hosted a grant-funded DUI Checkpoint on Friday night, from 10 a.m. to 3 a.m., resulting in the arrest of two drivers for drug or alcohol intoxication. A police spokeswoman said in an email that the checkpoint was held on westbound Antelope Road at Lauppe Lane. She said five vehicles were also towed, and 24 citations were issued for unlicensed drivers or drivers with suspended licenses. An additional four citations were issued for “miscellaneous violations.”

Obituary: Helen Mullin (1930-2021)
Helen Mullin, a 51-year resident of Citrus Heights, passed away on Aug. 16 at the age of 91. According to an obituary published Sunday in the Sacramento Bee, Mullin was born in South Dakota and later moved with her husband Bill to Colorado Springs and several other states before moving to Citrus Heights. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and watching Jeopardy. She is survived by her 10 children, 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A ceremony will be held at St. Mel’s Catholic Church on Sept. 7, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass and lunch reception. (See full obituary)
