The Pet Owners Organization of Citrus Heights, more commonly known by its acronym “POOCH,” will be hosting a bake sale this Saturday to raise money for a new walking path at C-Bar-C Dog Park.
The bake sale will be on Aug. 14 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at C-Bar-C park, in Citrus Heights. Treats for humans and dogs will be available for purchase, including jerky, dog bones, cookies, cakes and pies, according to organizers.
“Currently our main focus through fundraising is to continue raising money for an ADA compliant walking path inside both the small and large parks,” said POOCH Vice President Michelle Knotts in an email to The Sentinel on Wednesday.
The dog park was first opened in 2000, followed by the opening of another separated area for smaller dogs in 2005, called “Buddy’s Park.” A site plan for the project shows a path running through the parks within an existing fence. The path would expand access to the park for the elderly and people with disabilities.
POOCH is a 501c (3) non profit organization incorporated in 1997 and works with Sunrise Recreation and Park District to develop off leash dog parks throughout the district, according to a brochure released by the organization. Donations are tax deductible.
C-Bar-C Park is located at 8275 Oak Ave., in Citrus Heights. More information about the dog park and POOCH can be found on the organization’s Facebook group page where dog owners post photos of their pets and information is shared about related activities and plans for the dog park.
