The San Juan Unified School District will return to full-time in-person learning this year, and officials say their goal is to continue instruction all year “without disruption.”
According to an update posted on the district’s website, students will return to traditional five-day in person learning when school begins on Aug. 12, although families also have the option to choose independent learning (TK-12) or homeschooling (TK-8).
Students, guests, and staff will be required to wear proper face masks while inside the school or other district facilities. While wearing a face covering outdoors is recommended, the district says this is optional.
The district is also requiring students to wear masks on school buses and during school events, including field trips. Face coverings may be removed for lunch, snacks, or when it needs to be replaced.
A typical face covering has two or more layers of cloth that completely covers the mouth and nose. Gaiters made with only one cloth layer are not recommended. Families can provide face masks for students, and staff will have both reusable and disposable face masks available.
Students and staff will also be required to do a “symptom screening” prior to the school day. Students and faculty who are not feeling well, or have COVID symptoms, are asked to stay home to prevent interruptions in the learning day, according to the website.
San Juan Unified schools are also limiting events and guests on campus, and implementing additional safety measures given the high rates of COVID-19 in Sacramento County.
