Sentinel staff report–
Husband-and-wife accomplices Robert and Erin Mathis last week both received the maximum sentence possible for sex crimes involving possession of child pornography and sexual assault of children as young as one year old.
The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday that Robert Mathis pled guilty to sexually assaulting three children, ranging from 1 to 6 years old, as well as possessing child pornography. He was sentenced to 48 years to life in prison.
A news release from Citrus Heights police following the arrest in November last year said two of the victims were related to the defendants, and a third was a family friend. The DA’s office also said Robert Mathis admitted to “sexually assaulting the children while taking photos.”
Erin Mathis received a sentence of 33 years to life in prison after pleading “no contest” to sexually assaulting two children, ages 1 and 6. She also admitted to possessing child pornography.
As previously reported, the social media platform Facebook was first to alert the Citrus Heights Police Department that pornographic images involving children were being sent from the couple’s online accounts. An investigation by police revealed pornographic images and videos involving children on devices owned by the couple.
