Police and neighborhood groups in Citrus Heights and across the country will once again participate in National Night Out, an annual crime-fighting effort held around the country on the first Tuesday in August.
Billed as “America’s night out against crime,” the effort seeks to prevent crime by connecting neighbors and building local partnerships between communities and police. National organizers say more than 16,000 communities are involved in the effort each year, with the exception of last year when the coronavirus pandemic caused most events to be cancelled.
This year’s events will be held on August 3.
Citrus Heights police are supportive of the annual event and typically make the rounds to attend each neighborhood where events are planned. In a social media post last month, Citrus Heights police shared a registration form for community groups to register their events “so we can swing by and say hi.”
The Citrus Heights Areas Seven Eight and Nine (CHASEN) neighborhood association is among those planning to participate in National Night Out, with an event scheduled for Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at C-Bar-C park. The association said it will be providing free hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, and drinks, but requested that attendees bring a dessert dish to share.
