A jury trial has been set in a case involving a 63-year-old Citrus Heights man who was hospitalized after an alleged assault stemming from a Craigslist transaction.
The Davis Vanguard reported Thursday that the incident occurred last October as a result of a Craigslist deal between an unnamed Citrus Heights man and a buyer later identified as Taylor Montgomery Clift. The case was heard by a judge yesterday.
The seller claimed he sold a tool to Clift after placing an ad, but Clift later claimed the tool was defective and requested his money back. The seller said he agreed to accept the item back, but said Clift returned with the tool and attacked him, according to The Vanguard.
A statement from a responding police officer said the seller was left with “a swollen right eye with stitches going down his side, swelling underneath his chin, bruises on his forehead, and remnants of a bloody nose,” the Vanguard reported.
The public defender representing Clift on Wednesday questioned how the seller had identified the assailant, to which an officer said the victim had identified Clift in a “six pack photo lineup.”
Judge Richard Sueyoshi ruled the case can proceed to a jury trial scheduled for August 30, according to The Vanguard.
