After a year of cancelled events during the pandemic, the Sunrise Recreation & Park District has announced plans for an event similar to its past “Hot August Bites.”

This year’s “Hot August Movie Night” will be held on Aug. 6 and is slated to feature live music, food trucks, and free public swim at Rusch Pool, according to an announcement. Nor-Cal cruisers is also slated to hold a car show at the park as part of the event.

The park district’s senior recreation services manager, Marty Buell, told The Sentinel in an email Thursday the event is an updated version of Hot August Bites that has been held for more than five years. Last year’s event was cancelled due to COVID restrictions.

Buell said he is expecting five food trucks this year and live entertainment will be provided by the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West and Voice Academy.

“Raya and the Last Dragon” is scheduled to be the movie shown, with showtime expected to start at about 8:30 p.m., Buell said.

An event flier lists the free swim at Rusch Pool from 5:30-7:30 p.m., food trucks from 5-8:30 p.m., live music from 5:30-8 p.m., and the car show from 3-7:30 p.m.

The park is located at 7801 Auburn Blvd. Supervisor Sue Frost is listed as the presenting sponsor, and Sacramento County, American Water, Citrus Heights Car Wash, and Sunrise Marketplace are also listed as sponsors.
