Antelope Road Christian Fellowship is asking for community volunteers to help with a cleanup effort of a vacant field next to the church at Antelope Road and Old Auburn Road.
The event is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. this Saturday, June 5, and aims to clean up trash left behind from what the church described in a Facebook event post as “several unauthorized camps” in the adjacent field.
Antelope Road Christian Fellowship Pastor Greg Kaiser told The Sentinel in an email Wednesday that he hopes the effort will bring people together for a common goal.
“Our main hope is for neighbors to meet each other and work side by side toward something we can all agree on: the beautification of our great city,” Kaiser said. “We have a small handful who have said they can come and help, which is exceedingly kind. If we had 25 people total between the church and the neighborhood, I would be thrilled!”
The church will provide trash bags and pickers, along with coffee and doughnuts, he said.
Antelope Road Christian Fellowship is known for hosting various events for area homeless in the past, most recently partnering with the Citrus Heights Homeless Assistance Resource Team to offer free COVID-19 vaccinations for homeless individuals, along with a shower and other supplies.
Kaiser also briefly allowed homeless individuals last year to camp and take showers on church property after closures of park bathrooms and gym showers during the pandemic, but soon had to stop allowing overnight camping after neighbor complaints.
Antelope Road Christian Fellowship is located at 7951 Antelope Rd., in Citrus Heights. More information about the June 5 cleanup effort is posted on the church’s Facebook event page.
