Sentinel staff report–
Citrus Heights police said Thursday that a 36-year-old man has been arrested after being identified as the suspect responsible for a May 16 shooting on Auburn Boulevard that left two people injured.
Police said in a news release that detectives were able to identify the shooter as 36-year-old Markel Louis. He was taken into custody without incident on Thursday after being located on the 2300 block of Arden Way in Sacramento.
Police Chief Ron Lawrence said in Thursday’s statement to media that he “could not be more pleased that this suspect has been identified and safely captured to face justice for the dangerous and felonious crimes he is believed to have committed.”
As previously reported, police said the shooting occurred on the 7400 block of Auburn Boulevard just after 2 a.m., which is when the 7440 Club closes. Upon arrival, officers found a “large fight that had just concluded in the parking lot of an adjacent business,” police said. Two people and three parked vehicles were struck by gunfire.
A separate shooting also occurred on the same block the prior weekend, where four individuals were shot. Police Lt. Michael Wells said last week that a preliminary investigation indicates the two shootings are not connected, but he said both shootings were “associated with the nightclub.”

Police have now made arrests in both shootings, although authorities are still seeking to apprehend at least one more shooting suspect in the May 8 incident, which is believed to have been gang-related.
Police have credited community members and area businesses with helping provide tips in both arrests. Anyone with information about the shootings are asked to call the Police Department’s crime tip line at (916) 727-5524.
