Helicopter assists in stolen vehicle pursuit through Citrus Heights

By Mike Hazlip—
Sounds of police sirens and a helicopter could be heard streaking through Citrus Heights Wednesday night, as a stolen vehicle sped through the city.

Sacramento County Sheriff’s Sergeant Kionna Rowe told The Sentinel in a phone call Saturday that officers identified a stolen black SUV near Fair Oaks Boulevard and Old Auburn Road just before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. The suspect sped off in the vehicle and officers initiated a pursuit.

Rowe said deputies soon located the vehicle near the 200 block of Rochelle Court in Roseville where it had been abandoned by the driver. A perimeter was set up and an adult male suspect was detained.

Citrus Heights Police Lt. Michael Wells told The Sentinel in an email that Citrus Heights police were not involved in the pursuit.

Chatter on social media also reported a sheriff’s vehicle overturned at Winding Way and Manzanita Avenue the same evening, but Rowe said that collision was a separate incident not related to the Citrus Heights chase.
