Following a successful outdoor movie showing of “Toy Story” last month, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Citrus Heights plans to continue hosting drive-in movie nights each month.

Associate Pastor Brock Groth told the Sentinel in an email Monday the church saw about 150 people at last month’s event, with a showing of the movie “Toy Story.” Groth said families from the church and associated school as well as the greater community were in attendance.

“It was great to see people gathering safely and enjoying the good food and family atmosphere,” Groth said.

The church plans to hold the second movie night on March 26 with a screening of Disney Pixar’s “Up.” Groth said organizers plan to have two food trucks along with ice cream treats for the next event.

This month’s movie will start later, between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., because of the time change and longer daylight hours, according to Groth. Food trucks are scheduled to arrive at 5:30 p.m.

Organizers are also planning an Easter food drive this month that will culminate the same night as the movie, and Groth is asking members of the community to bring non perishable food items. He said donations will benefit local food banks.

The church is located at 7869 Kingswood Drive, near Sunrise Boulevard.
