Sentinel staff report–
Students of all grade levels in Citrus Heights and elsewhere in the San Juan Unified School District will have the option of returning to in-person learning beginning next week, the district said Tuesday.
The announcement came on the heels of Sacramento County officially entering the less-restrictive “Red Tier” of COVID-19 classifications.
“Our staff have been preparing for the return of our students and staff to classrooms,” Superintendent Kent Kern said in a statement Tuesday. “We have put many safety measures in place to protect everyone’s health and are excited to have finally reached the point where we can safely return to on campus learning.”
The district said students opting for in-person learning can return March 22 and “will be served in a hybrid model to meet state capacity restrictions.” Students will be assigned to three groups, with one group attending in-person classes on Mondays and Tuesday in the mornings, and the other group attending on Thursdays and Fridays. Remote learning will continue in the afternoons.
The third group, Group C, will be made up of students who choose to continue distance learning, rather than return in-person.
The district in a video said all students and adults on campus will be required to wear face masks “unless they have a valid medical exemption.” Social distancing will also be enforced with markings on floors and elsewhere.
Those in early infant/toddler and preschool education programs are the only students who will not return to in-person learning March 22. The district said these students will be able to return April 5.
