The Citrus Heights Homeless Assistance Resource Team (HART) says it’s recently received more than $15,000 in donations from various service groups, individuals and organizations.
On Wednesday, HART received gift items and a $1,081 donation from Kappa Theta and other local chapters of the Sigma Phi Gamma International Sorority.
HART spokeswoman Kathilynn Carpenter, who also serves as executive director of the Sunrise MarketPlace, said other recent donations included $1,500 from the Safeway Foundation, $5,500 from Carmichael Elks, and $8,503 from the Men’s Advisory Council. She said council is an inmate fundraising program at Folsom Prison whose members heard about HART’s effort to help students and wanted to help out.

HART is known for its efforts to assist homeless in Citrus Heights, most recently launching a “warming center” during winter months and also launching an “Underground Clothing” closet at Sunrise Mall to benefit in-need students.
Carpenter said HART is “currently working on a strategy for how to best allocate the funds,” and said the nonprofit organization would like to develop a youth job training program. She also said HART is “in the early stages of working on a year-round respite center for homeless,” as well as launching several related awareness campaigns.
