Sentinel staff report–
Alfred Sanchez, best known as the “Citrus Heights Snack Man” for his volunteer efforts to bring snacks to area homeless, will be hosting a donation drive to collect socks for the homeless as a way to celebrate his birthday this month.

Sanchez told The Sentinel he is inviting community members to drop off socks at his home, anytime between March 7-9, from 3-8 p.m. The address for drop-offs is 6253 Longford Drive, located off Greenback Lane.

“I want this to be a huge success,” said Sanchez. “Clean socks are crucial part of homeless hygiene.”

Alternative arrangements to drop off socks can also be made by contacting Sanchez through Facebook. He said socks will be distributed to the homeless he visits in the area on a routine basis.

The Citrus Heights Homeless Assistance Resource Team (HART) is also supporting Sanchez’s efforts, saying on social media: “Let’s SOCK it to Snack Man for his Birthday!” The nonprofit said anyone wishing to donate prior to Sanchez’s drive can bring brand new socks to HART’s new Underground Clothing store inside Sunrise Mall, from March 3-6.

Sanchez routinely visits area homeless, passing out snacks and checking up on them. He also was involved in getting the City of Citrus Heights to formally recognize “National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day” in December last year.
