Following a deadly shooting in a residential neighborhood near Sylvan Corners on Monday, Citrus Heights police are now investigating another shooting that occurred just two days afterward in another part of the city.
The Sentinel reported previously on a Feb. 1 shooting on Gallant Circle, which left one man dead. Police Lt. Michael Wells later confirmed another unrelated shooting incident had occurred near Antelope Road and Turner Court on Wednesday.
From last week: Man dead after Monday night shooting in Citrus Heights neighborhood
Wells said the California Highway Patrol contacted Citrus Heights police while investigating a vehicle on Westbound Business 80 near Fulton Avenue, where officers found bullet holes in the vehicle and two occupants inside with gunshot wounds.
Wells said the investigation led Highway Patrol officers to believe the shooting had occurred in Citrus Heights. Police then took over the investigation and found spent bullet casings in the area.
Authorities believe the shooting occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday, around 3 a.m. The Highway Patrol found the vehicle Wednesday morning and closed Westbound Business 80 for several hours.
“Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears the subjects were known to each other and it was not a random act,” Wells said. “This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no reason to believe there is any threat to the general public.”
Wells would not comment on whether gang activity could be related to the shooting. CBS 13 reported the men were ages 24 and 27. One man was in critical condition while the other was stable, according to the report.
Wednesday’s incident came on the heels of a deadly shooting on Monday, where a Citrus Heights resident called police after shooting another man in his driveway during an altercation. Police are still investigating that incident and had not made any arrests, as of Thursday.
Anyone with information related to the shooting near Antelope Road and Turner Court is asked to call the Police Department’s tip line at (916) 727-5524.
