Sentinel staff report–
Additional patrol officers will be on the streets of Citrus Heights over Super Bowl weekend to target drivers showing signs of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
“If you are watching the game at home and plan to have a drink or two, stay at home,” Police Lt. Jason Baldwin said in a news release on Thursday. “Have a family member who hasn’t been drinking go out on your behalf or have your food delivered.”
The department also advised drivers that prescription drugs with warning labels about driving or operating machinery can cause enough impairment to result in a DUI. Marijuana, especially when used in combination with alcohol or other drugs, can also result in a DUI.
Funding for CHPD’s increased patrols comes from a California Office of Traffic Safety grant, through the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration. The grants also fund the department’s regular DUI and Driver’s License Checkpoint operations.
