Looking for some outdoor activities during COVID-19 closures?

The Sunrise Recreation and Park District has released a new online activity guide with a variety of events and activities available beginning this month and continuing through May.

Although normally mailed to households, the district has opted for an interactive online publication, which details classes and activities for all ages. COVID-19 modifications or restrictions will vary with each activity and all current health guidelines will be followed, the district says.

Aquatics: Beginning in March 2021, several aquatics activities will resume. Red Cross lifeguard training will be available for anyone 16 and over for $240, while adults over 18 can get their feet wet with lifeguard instructor training for $275. Sunrise Sharks will be prowling the waters of Rusch Pool once again in 2021. Preschool swim lessons are also available.

Youth Sports: The park district is offering many different youth sports’ camps, including volleyball, basketball, and swimming camp. Age and price ranges vary on the program.

Martial Arts: Multiple martial arts programs are available. Tai Chi and Qi Gong is available to anyone 16 or older for $59. Adult self-defense and fitness classes are also available, for those looking to improve strength, balance, and endurance.

Pickleball Club: All ages are invited to enjoy pickleball at Rusch Park. Occurring Sunday-Friday, the Sunrise Pickleball Club provides a fun activity that aims to enhance participants’ experience through competitive, social, and educational events.

Day Care and Preschool: Children aged 3-5 have the ability to enroll in preschool programs provided by Sunrise Kids Club. The district requires proof of birth date and immunization records for enrollment. Sessions are monthly, and tuition is calculated from August to May. Parents must register their children in person.

Additional activities and events, including table tennis, watercolors painting, and summer day camp, are also planned at various parks in the district. To see the full activity guide, click here.
