After a lull in new housing units being built in recent years, Citrus Heights is on track to potentially add hundreds of new units in 2021 — including several low-income housing projects.
The following five projects have already been approved by the city’s Planning Commission, or are likely to see some progress this year:
Abbeys Gate at Northridge. A long-delayed housing development off the 5500 block of Mariposa Avenue has seen some progress over the past year, with model homes recently being completed and private tours now available. The gated community will be made up of 46 new homes, when complete. See more on this development in The Sentinel’s upcoming Jan. 28th Midweek Edition.
Sunrise Pointe. A controversial 47-unit, low-income supportive housing project was approved for the old Abel’s Christmas Tree lot at 7424 Sunrise Blvd. in 2019, but has yet to see development activity. Fair Oaks Senior Apartments. A 110-unit senior apartment complex was approved last year to be built on a 4.95-acre lot at 12057 Fair Oaks Blvd. The developer intends to move ahead with the project this year, according to the city. Mitchell Village. The 260-home Mitchell Village housing development between Arcadia Drive and Fair Oaks Boulevard is the largest project Citrus Heights has seen in recent years. Construction began last year, with several new model homes being completed at the end of 2020 and future homes at the site already pre-selling. Sylvan Corners. The city voted earlier this month to sell an 11.3-acre vacant lot at Sylvan Corners to Woodside Homes, making it likely the city will see a development proposal for the site later this year. When submitting an offer to buy the property, Woodside Homes said it was planning to build up to 93 single-family homes on the parcel.
