Motorists traveling along Greenback Lane may have seen a new development proposal sign at Birdcage Street, where a Louisiana-based fast food chain has proposed to build a new drive-thru.
Public records show Raising Cane’s — known for its chicken fingers, cole slaw and Texas toast — has submitted a proposal to build a new location in the Hobby Lobby parking lot. The company has over 500 restaurants nation wide, but no current presence in Northern California.
A description prepared by PM Design Group, Inc. describes a 3,172-square-foot restaurant and a 199-square-foot outdoor covered patio. The total site area would take up 36,566 square feet of the Hobby Lobby parking area.
The restaurant would have 24 parking spaces and one space reserved for a clean air vehicle. The proposal calls for two drive-thru lanes with a total capacity of 18 cars.
Raising Cane’s is known for their limited menu and appeal to college-age demographics, according to a recent report in the Sacramento Business Journal. Proposed hours for the new location are 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday to Thursday, with extended hours until 3:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
A statement on Raising Cane’s website says the company’s vision is to “grow restaurants all over the world and be the brand for quality chicken finger meals, a great crew, cool culture, and active community involvement.”
Raising Cane’s is reportedly planning to open more than 30 locations throughout the Central Valley. In addition to Citrus Heights, new restaurants are planned for Roseville and Natomas, according to the Journal. The nearest location to Citrus Heights is currently in Reno, Nevada.
The Citrus Heights project is scheduled to be heard by the Planning Commission in December, The Business Journal reported.
