The Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce is working with other community organizations to bring food to families at the Sayonara Center.
Diane Ebbitt, interim executive director for the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce, told The Sentinel Tuesday the food drive is a collaboration with the chamber, Citrus Heights Rotary Club, and the Homeless Assistance Resource Team (HART).
Ebbitt said she helped organize the food drive after becoming aware that Sayonara Center Director Julie Habeeb was feeding families at the center on Sayonara Drive. Ebbitt said Habeeb is working several nights each week to distribute food to families, and help students with homework.
When asked how much food she would need, Ebbitt said she would like to see “a pick-up truck bed” full of items. Canned foods, spaghetti sauces, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, granola bars, lunch meats, fruit, and protein bars are all items the center can use, according to Ebbitt. She said the one of the center’s top needs is a large pot and utensils for cooking soup.
“They really need the help and we would really appreciate the community stepping in to provide the help,” Ebbitt said. “She [Habeeb] does a great job with those kids.”
The food drive ends Wednesday, Sept. 30. Items can be dropped off at Grocery Outlet seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., located at 6059 Greenback Ln.
