Police Lt. Michael Wells told The Sentinel in an email update Wednesday afternoon that police are continuing their investigation and request anyone with relevant information to contact police at 916-727-5550. A tip line can also be reached at 916-727-5524.

As of Wednesday, Wells said detectives were not currently releasing additional information, but he confirmed “the victim is believed to be transient.”

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the deceased as David H. McMillan. The initial classification for cause of death and city of residence has been left blank on the coroner’s website.

The Sentinel reached out to a family member and was sent the following statement:

“Dave was very liked in the community due to his warm and welcoming nature. He has many friends and family that love him and will miss him dearly. He was a talented tile-setter, he thought of it as an art. He was funny, smart, and a hard worker. He had a way with animals and they loved him. He was devoted to his mother up until she passed a couple years ago.

“He is remembered by his two daughters, Chelsea and Katie, and they will remember him as very fun-loving, always wanting to make them laugh or go do something fun, like riding jet skis or going to amusement parks. He loved soccer and was enthusiastic to coach their childhood teams. His family will always have fun memories of him and a value for humor because of him. He will be painfully missed, but always remembered.”
