Citrus Heights police on Monday announced the arrest of two juveniles in connection with recent incidents of arson involving American flags being burned.
The investigation began after flags outside four residences were reportedly set on June 6, followed by an arson fire last week that damaged a play structure at Rusch Park. Police said the 15 and 17-year-old suspects were apprehended in connection with the fire at Rusch Park, but said the teens also admitted to setting fire to the flags, as well as multiple incidents where rocks were thrown at windows.
Police said three more individuals have been identified as suspects and expect to make more arrests in the coming days.
The Sentinel reported earlier that three Cypress trees outside a home with an American flag light display on Lynnetree Way were also set ablaze during the string of arson fires. The homeowner told The Sentinel his house could have caught fire, had it not been weather conditions and the quick work of an alert neighbor.
