Theaters, gyms, bars and other businesses have been given the green light by health officials to reopen on Friday, but not all in Citrus Heights are jumping at the first chance to reopen.
Following an announcement from the governor’s office last Friday, The Sacramento Bee reported Wednesday that an agreement between Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, and El Dorado counties will allow schools, movie theaters, bars, and other businesses deemed “nonessential” to reopen as early as Friday, June 12.
Gold’s Gym in Citrus Heights announced on social media that it will reopen at noon on Friday. In an update on Wednesday, the gym said masks will be required “when possible,” and said social distancing and other coronavirus mitigation measures will be in effect. Hours will also be reduced.
Another local gym, California Family Fitness, isn’t as hurried to reopen. The company announced on its website that the Citrus Heights location is planning to reopen June 22, but some of its other locations will reopen as early as June 12.
The privately held fitness company, based in Orangevale, is modifying facilities at all locations to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Members will be screened for the virus before checking in, and plexi-glass dividers, floor markings, and additional signage will be in place, according to the company’s website.
Sunrise Rollerland initially posted on social media just hours after the governor’s announcement about Phase 3 reopenings last Friday, saying it “looks like” the rink would be reopening on the 12th. The roller rink later posted that “California is opening in a lot more stages than they originally put out there.” Adding, “So, no skating until they figure it out. Sorry.”
Corner Pocket Sports Bar at Sunrise Boulevard and Antelope Road has already reopened, according to the bar’s Facebook page. Phat Chad’s Tavern on Auburn Boulevard also reopened last month.
Here’s what’s coming to the old Hometown Buffet in Citrus Heights
Owners of the local Greenback Lane bookstore, Boomerang Books, told The Sentinel their store is planning to open June 18, after several months of closure.
The only theater in Citrus Heights, Regal UA Sunrise Mall, has not announced a reopening date, as of June 11. Regal’s website says the local theater “will remain closed until further notice.”
Studio Movie Grill construction on hold due to COVID-19 shutdown
Studio Movie Grill, which is under construction on Auburn Boulevard, has yet to open and construction at the site has halted due to coronavirus shutdowns. A spokeswoman told The Sentinel two weeks ago she did not have a time frame for when construction will resume, but confirmed the theater is still planning to open in Citrus Heights.
A revised health order from Sacramento County clarifying new regulations regarding business reopenings had not been released as of noon on Thursday. The order is expected to be released before noon Friday.
