High schools in Citrus Heights will be holding virtual graduations for seniors on Monday and Tuesday, as traditional, in-person ceremonies were ruled out by administrators last month amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mesa Verde High School will have its graduation live-streamed at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 8. San Juan High School’s graduation will be held the following day, June 9, at 7 p.m., according to the city’s June newsletter.
The virtual ceremonies will include pre-recorded speeches by students and staff, along with personalized slides and name announcements for each graduate, the district said last month. Graduations can be viewed online at:
During last month’s City Council meeting, three seniors were awarded with $1,000 scholarships, in partnership with the city, Republic Services, the school district and the San Juan Education Foundation.
Anette Sandoval, from San Juan High School, plans to go to the University of California at Davis for a degree in Sustainable Environmental Design.
Alina Yaroshevich, who attended Mesa Verde High School, will pursue a degree in Civil Engineering from California State University, Sacramento.
Vivian Roberts, who also attended Mesa Verde, will attend the University of California in Berkeley for a degree in Environmental Science Engineering.
While other school districts have also opted to host virtual ceremonies, Placer Union High School District announced last month that it would be holding in-person graduation ceremonies, where no more than 50 students will be present at a time.
