Sentinel staff report–
With about 33,000 votes counted so far, Sacramento County Supervisor Sue Frost holds 74% of the vote in her bid to hold onto her District 4 seat for a second term.
Frost accepted victory in a post on Facebook Tuesday night, offering a “huge THANK YOU” to her supporters. “Votes are still coming in,” she wrote, “but it is clear that I have won my re-election campaign.”
As long as her lead holds at more than 50 percent, there will be no run-off election in November for her District 4 position, which covers Citrus Heights, Folsom and the northeastern portion of the county.
The only challenger running against Frost was Bridget Duffy, a self-described housewife who also ran for a position on the Citrus Heights City Council in 2014.
Frost first entered politics in 2012 after a successful run for a position on the Citrus Heights City Council. She was later appointed mayor and subsequently ran for county supervisor, after Roberta MacGlashan announced she would not seek reelection for the District 4 position in 2016.
Frost is known to be fiscally conservative and has been vocal about her opposition to rent control and support for law enforcement. Her votes on various issues drew the ire of The Sacramento Bee’s editorial board, which opted to not endorse either Frost or Duffy.
Votes from the March 3 election will continue to be counted over the coming weeks, with the next update from elections officials scheduled for March 6 at 4 p.m.
