Sentinel staff report–
Space is still available to register for an upcoming cornhole tournament at the Community Center, hosted by the Citrus Heights Police Activities League in partnership with the California Cornhole Association.
The event will be held on March 13, from 6-9 p.m. inside the Citrus Heights Community Center. Teams of two can register through March 10, for $50. At the door registration is $65, according to an event flier. Individuals can also register and will be paired with another individual player, according to Police Lt. Mike Wells.
Entry is free for anyone wishing to watch the tournament. Texas Roadhouse will be on site offering food and beverages, including craft beers.
Wells said the event will involve two-person teams competing against other teams in a tournament format, with each team attempting to toss cornhole bags (similar to beanbags) into a six-inch hole cut into a cornhole board.
He said two boards will be placed facing eachother, 27 feet apart. Bags landing on the board will score one point, while bags making it through the hole will get three points. The first team to 21 points will win.
The event will also include a silent auction and raffle prizes. Sponsorships are currently being sought for $500, which includes entry fee, dinner for two, signage at the event, social media recognition, and a “customized cornhole set imprinted with your logo,” a flier for the event says.
The Citrus Heights Police Activities League was founded in 2010 as a nonprofit charitable organization with the goal of “building positive relationships” between law enforcement youth. Activities organized by the League have included outdoor sports, hiking trips, and museum tours, as well as annual fundraisers to help cover costs.
Registration for the tournament can be made online at www.calcornhole.com/events, or by emailing pal@citrusheights.net.
