The City of Citrus Heights will hold a two-hour interactive community workshop on Feb. 11 to gather input from the public about future redevelopment of the 100-acre Sunrise Mall property.
City spokeswoman Nichole Baxter said the goal of the workshop is to gather ideas and public input on a plan that will transform the declining mall property “into a premier regional destination and a flourishing center of community life where residents and visitors, shop, work, live and play.”
She said attendees will be provided with a brief update on the city’s Specific Plan process for the mall, as well as results from a recent market analysis that was conducted. Attendees will then be split into various table groups “to imagine what goes into great public spaces, make a 2D model with the help of facilitators, and share their future site visions.”
Groups will craft plans for the mall using images, stickers, markers, and post-its on a 3-by-6-foot design board, she said. Each group will then present their plan towards the end of the meeting.
The workshop is part of the city’s “Sunrise Tomorrow” planning effort, which launched with an interactive website last month at sunrisetomorrow.net.
The upcoming workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 5-7 p.m. at the former Sears building at Sunrise Mall, located at 5900 Sunrise Blvd.
