Dressbarn closed its doors for the final time in Citrus Heights on Dec. 26, following major discounts that included everything from clothes to fixtures, furniture and equipment.
The company announced in May that all of its 650 stores nationwide would be closing, but a specific date was not announced at the time for when its Citrus Heights store at the corner of Greenback Lane and Sunrise Boulevard would be shuttered.
The company’s website is still selling merchandise through Dec. 31, with prices up to 90 percent off.
According to a notice posted on its website, Dressbarn will revive its name online under new ownership at a future date. Additional details were not posted, but NBC Miami reported last month that Dressbarn had sold its intellectual property assets and “will begin transitioning its ecommerce business to a subsidiary of Retail Ecommerce Ventures, LLC.”
The decline in brick-and-mortar retail is largely attributed to the rise in online shopping, but some retailers like Hobby Lobby are bucking that trend. Hobby Lobby announced it had planned to open 65 more stores in 2019, along with a new Citrus Heights store that is expected to open early next year in the former Toys R Us building on Greenback Lane.

Former retail-heavy shopping centers are expected to evolve into different uses, with mixed use being considered for the future of Sunrise Mall.
Elsewhere in Citrus Heights, a sports club is planned for a 50,000-square-foot spot in the Sunrise Village shopping center at Madison Avenue and Sunrise Boulevard, and Studio Movie Grill is renovating a portion of the former Kmart building on Auburn Boulevard.
