Nutcracker ballet, Frozen Winter Festival coming to Citrus Heights this week

Sentinel staff report–
Nutcracker ballet performances will be coming to Citrus Heights Dec. 18, followed by a Frozen-themed winter festival on Dec. 21.

The events are part of an annual event series known as “Magical Moments,” put on by Sunrise MarketPlace. The winter festival was originally scheduled for Nov. 30, but was pushed back due to weather.

On Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 5-7 p.m. in Macy’s Court at Sunrise Mall, the Sac Civic Ballet will be holding a pair of Nutcracker performances. The first performance begins at 5:15 p.m., followed by a repeat performance at 6:10 p.m., according to the event’s Facebook page.

Nutcracker character appearances, story time with Elf on the Shelf, and a $250 prize giveaway are also on tap.

The Frozen-themed Winter Festival will follow on Saturday, Dec. 21, from 12-3 p.m., at the Sunrise Village shopping plaza, located on the 5400 block of Sunrise Boulevard, near Madison Avenue.

According to the event’s Facebook page, the festival is scheduled to include a special appearance from Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff from the movie “Frozen,” as well as a pop-up carnival, a variety of games and activities, face painting, and a bounce house. Organizers say kids will also be able to have their picture taken with “Mr. and Mrs. Santa Mouse and the Christmas Bear.”

“Magical Moments” events are presented by the Sunrise MarketPlace, a business improvement district made up of more than 400 businesses located along Sunrise Boulevard between Arcadia Drive and Madison Avenue, and along Greenback Lane between Birdcage Street and Fair Oaks Boulevard. Each event is held at a different location within the business district.
