Sentinel staff report–
Children and families now have a new playground to enjoy at Rusch Park in Citrus Heights, after a ribbon cutting ceremony for the playground was held on Wednesday morning.

The new playground offers multiple levels, six different slides, climbing features, a swing set area and more. A covered portion of the playground is also accessible with a wheelchair ramp.

The new structure was estimated to cost approximately $350,000 and replaces a former playground at the park, located nearest the covered picnic area and the community center, with closest access off Auburn Boulevard.

The project suffered some delays in construction, with an initial completion date projected for October, which was then pushed back to November, and a final opening date occurring Dec. 11.

The playground is the second new playground that has been installed in Citrus Heights in the past month, with Northwoods Park celebrating the opening of a new playground in November.

District Administrator Dave Mitchell previously told The Sentinel the design of Rusch Park’s new playground was selected out of a total of 14 different proposals, with community members playing a role in choosing the winning design.

In August, the Citrus Heights City Council voted to allocate $86,000 from a Park Facilities Impact Fee Fund to help with covering the cost of the new playground at Rusch Park. The fund is made up of revenues from impact fees that are imposed on new development projects in Citrus Heights.
