Only a pile of bricks and concrete remain, after a long-vacant commercial building in Citrus Heights with a history of code enforcement issues was demolished last week.
The site, at 7210 Greenback Ln., is located just around the corner from the Police Department, and had been the target of blight complaints and efforts from the city to get the property cleaned up. A fire at the site in July caused severe damage to the building, and Metro Fire crews found evidence that the building was being inhabited by transients.

Future plans for the now-vacant .6-acre property are unknown, as the owner of record, listed as George Voncil Petker, was unable to be reached for comment. A woman who answered the phone on Saturday for the only number publicly listed under his name said it was a wrong number.
Police Lt. Chad Morris told The Sentinel earlier this year that Petker had appeared at an administrative hearing regarding the poor condition of the property. Morris said he was reminded that if he “fails to clean up the property in a timely fashion, the city will issue a warrant and then bill him for the clean up fees required to complete it.”
Property records indicate Petker owns at least four properties in the region, one of which is in Citrus Heights along with two in Sacramento and one in Folsom. One of his Sacramento properties was also targeted for nuisance abatement by the City of Sacramento in 2015, according to public records.
Lt. Morris and a spokesperson for the city did not immediately respond to requests for comment late Friday.
