Latest local news briefs include an upcoming public hearing for a proposed new Dutch Bros coffee drive-thru in Citrus Heights, along with a grand opening for a new playground and the identification of a suspect in a theft at Walmart.

Citrus Heights police ID woman in surveillance footage
The Citrus Heights Police Department announced Wednesday that a woman in surveillance footage released last month has been identified as 29-year-old Melissa Gardner, thanks to the help of tips from community members. Police had posted a photo of a female suspect on Oct. 17 who was accused of taking an elderly woman’s purse at Walmart and then making fraudulent purchases. (See post)

Public hearing for proposed Dutch Bros set for Wednesday
The Citrus Heights Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Wednesday night for a proposed Dutch Bros coffee drive-thru in the Raley’s parking lot on Lichen Drive. New playground to open Tuesday at Northwoods park in Citrus Heights
A ribbon cutting event will be held on Nov. 12 at Northwoods Park to celebrate the opening of a newly renovated park playground. The project cost an estimated $134,500, according to the the Sunrise Recreation and Park District. Presentations and a ribbon cutting will begin at 11 a.m., with a free hot dog lunch and activities at 11:30 a.m. The park is located at 8236 Old Ranch Road.
