Sentinel staff report– San Juan High School in Citrus Heights was placed on lockdown for several hours Wednesday afternoon following a shooting at a nearby residence.
The lockdown was first publicly announced by police in a social media post at 12:41 p.m. on Wednesday. Police said all students were safe, but no one was allowed to enter or leave the school while officers conducted a thorough search of the campus.
Police said the lockdown had been lifted at 3:35 p.m., after officers finished a room-by-room search of the school for three juvenile suspects who had been seen running towards the high school after shots were fired.
In a news release issued Wednesday evening, police confirmed the shooting had occurred off-campus at a residence on the 6300 block of Mariposa Ave. No shots were fired “at or in the direction of” the high school, according to police.
At least two rounds were fired at a residence, police said, but no injuries occurred as a result of the shooting.
Parents were urged to avoid the campus during the lockdown and a parent waiting area was set up by the school district at the Citrus Heights Community Center.
Police said officers searched “every building, room, bathroom, and storage closet for the suspects and evidence,” but no suspects were located.
The suspects were described by police only as “one white male juvenile and two black male juveniles.”
