The City of Citrus Heights and the San Juan Unified School District will host a drop-in open house on Tuesday at Mesa Verde High School to gather community input on a plan to improve traffic safety.
The open house event will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the PAC Building at 7501 Carriage Drive. The Carriage Drive and Lauppe Lane Safe Schools Corridor Plan seeks to identify measures to mitigate safety issues near Carriage Drive Elementary School, Mesa Verde High School and Sylvan Middle School along Carriage Drive and Lauppe Lane, from Antelope Road to Auburn Boulevard.
According to the city, the three schools located along the Carriage Drive/Lauppe Lane corridor have experienced a 25 percent enrollment increase over the past three years, with the large majority of students arriving to school in cars.
The increased enrollment has contributed to “already high peak vehicular, pedestrian, bicycle and parking demands, increased vehicular speeds, mid-block and uncontrolled pedestrian crossings,” the city says on its website.
The plan, once complete, will be used to seek final design and construction funding.
