Updated Sept. 10, 10:22 a.m.– Latest police logs include a caller receiving criminal threats after sending a birthday invite to the wrong number, a firearm being stolen in a vehicle burglary, and a customer at Walmart being caught for reportedly switching price tags to get a lower price on meat.
The following is a summary of select incidents listed in the Citrus Heights Police Department’s daily incident bulletins for Sept. 1, 2019. Dispositions are listed where provided by police. Additional logs are linked below.
Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019: Total of 74 incidents reported. Incident report categories of note: 23 calls regarding suspicious activities, 16 disturbance-related, 3 homeless-related, 4 petty thefts, 1 burglary, 4 assault reports, 2 hit-and-run collisions.
12:02 a.m., Suspicious Circumstances, The Couch Sports Lounge on Madison Ave. A man called police shortly after midnight and said he wanted to confess to “strangling someone in a nightclub last night.” The man said he had strangled a girl named Jasmine using “the cloth part of a thigh-high boot” and told police that the coroner had already picked up the body. He said he would be taking an Uber ride to the police station in order to turn himself in and speak with detectives. No further details were listed, but the log states there were no reports of a murder in the area during the time frame mentioned. A police lieutenant later told The Sentinel that officers had investigated the claim and determined it to have been unfounded.
1:02 a.m., Criminal Threats Report, Woodruff Way. Police were contacted after a caller said they had accidentally sent a birthday invite to a friend’s former number. The individual who received the invite reportedly had replied by sending texts “threatening to show up with guns” or to rape the caller’s wife. The caller requested that officers call the number and tell them to stop.
2:10 a.m., Domestic Violence, Crux Dr. A man called police shortly after 2 a.m. and said he was hiding in his bathroom from his wife, who was reportedly hitting him. No weapons were involved.
5:25 a.m., Suspicious Vehicle, Grand Oaks Shopping Center on Grand Oaks Blvd. Police were advised about an ongoing issue with a red SUV camping in the Grand Oaks Shopping Center parking lot. The caller was concered about the area becoming a camping spot, as another vehicle and a motor home had also recently joined the red SUV.
6:48 a.m., Suspicious Circumstances, Rollingwood Blvd. A man called to report that his wife had just heard someone trying to open the security door on his home. After looking outside, a black male adult wearing a dark blue shirt and jeans was seen walking away. The caller advised that he had also called two days before to report that a black male adult was “trying to crawl through his son’s window.” Disposition listed: unable to locate.
8:43 a.m., Vandalism, Amsterdam Ave. A vehicle owner told police he had found his vehicle with all of its tires slashed and its windows smashed. The owner said he believed it was the same group of juveniles who had been “targeting him” for several months.
8:52 a.m., Assault, AM/PM at Madison/San Juan. Two men were reportedly fighting in the parking lot outside the AM/PM convenience store at Madison Avenue and San Juan.
10:19 a.m., Driving Under the Influence, Sunrise/Old Auburn. Police were advised that a possible DUI driver in a tan Toyota was observed swerving on the roadway. The driver also appeared to be “nodding off” at a stoplight on Sunrise Boulevard.
11:57 a.m., Suspicious Circumstances, Dancing Creek Ct. An unknown man was reportedly observed knocking on doors near Bridgemont Way and Van Maren Lane, “asking for someone who doesn’t live there.” A caller said he was observed going up to each house on the block and “marking their doors with some sort of stick.” The individual was described as a black male adult in his 50s, carrying a bag.
12:34 p.m., Burglary Vehicle, Holland Ave. A vehicle was burglarized sometime during the night and a firearm, watches and miscellaneous items were reportedly stolen from a lock box inside the vehicle. Security footage was being sought from a neighbor’s camera.
1:30 p.m., Suspicious Circumstances, Patton Ave. A woman said nude photos of herself from six years ago had been sent to her “most current ex-boyfriend” by her former ex-boyfriend’s girlfriend through Facebook Messenger.
2:01 p.m., Vandalism, Paradise Oaks on Olivine Ave. Five clients at the Paradise Oaks Youth Services center were reportedly “trying to break into the office by throwing rocks in the windows to get the money.” The center operates several state-licensed homes for at-risk youth in Citrus Heights.
3:09 p.m., Hit-and-Run With Injury, Raintree/Auburn. Police were contacted by a driver who was involved in a hit-and-run collision near Raintree and Auburn Boulevard. The caller said they were currently following the suspect vehicle.
3:43 p.m., Petty Theft, Locher Wy. A woman said she wanted to press charges against her ex, as he had allegedly stolen her son’s piggy bank with $40 in it. Police were advised that the man had stolen from her multiple times in the past as well.
4:47 p.m., Fraud/Forgery, Walmart on Auburn Blvd. Police were contacted by loss prevention at Walmart who had a customer in custody for “ticket switching.” The customer had allegedly switched price tags on some meat and had paid $14 for $50 worth of meat. Police were advised that the store’s policy is to contact police regarding any ticket-switching over $25.
7:29 p.m., Disturbance Verbal, Joann Fabrics on Sunrise Blvd. Police were called on a customer who refused to leave Joann Fabrics store and was reportedly following the manager around and yelling at her after she tried to return some products.
*Editor’s note: The Sentinel contacted police on Saturday for additional information regarding the incident reported at The Couch Sports Bar. Although full details were not immediately available over the weekend, Lt. Dave Gutierrez said the report was likely unfounded.
