Video released Wednesday by the Citrus Heights Police Department shows a man grabbing a display of lottery tickets from a convenience store.
The man shown in the video is wearing a dark hat, sunglasses and a red jersey with the number “10” on it. In the video he can be seen slowly walking up to a front counter, grabbing a display of tickets and then attempting to exit the store quickly.
He can be seen dropping the case and fumbling as he makes his exit.
The video, which was posted on the police department’s social media pages, did not include details regarding what store the incident occurred at, or the time and date. The department’s post on Facebook was accompanied by the hashtag #griffinIIIfootballjersey, in reference to NFL football player Robert Griffin III, who wore the number “10” jersey while playing for the Washington Redskins.
Lottery ticket theft occurs around the country, with many thieves winding up behind bars, due to the tickets being able to be traced. A 2013 article in the Mercury News quoted a police lieutenant stating that scratch-off lottery tickets each have unique serial numbers and are traceable when they are scanned in for payoffs.
Citrus Heights police said anyone recognizing the suspect in the video is asked to call (916) 727-5524 and leave a message with a tip, referencing CH19-06457.
