The sixth annual “Hot August Bites” event in Citrus Heights will be returning to Rusch Park, on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will feature live music from Sacramento’s Ophir Prison Marching Kazoo Band and Temperance Society Limited, along with a classic car show sponsored by Nor Cal Cruisers. Vendors and a selection of five food trucks will also be on scene.

“It’s one of our most popular annual community events,” said Sunrise Park District Recreation Coordinator Karey Hansen, adding that it’s best to arrive early since the event has drawn over 1,000 attendees in the past.

Park guests can enjoy a free swim in Rusch Pool from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., before regular admission price applies. The five food trucks who are participating include Squeeze-In Burgers, Hefty Gyros, Fire Goddess Pizza, Azteca Tacos and Daisy’s Ice Cream.

Hot August Bites originated as a spin-off of the Free Summer Concert Series that the park district and City of Citrus Heights had been co-hosting.

Best access for the event will be from the Auburn Boulevard side of Rusch Park at 7801 Auburn Blvd. Available parking inside the park fills quickly, Hansen said. Late park visitors may find off-street parking as their only option.

Live music begins at noon with Voice Academy followed by the Ophir Prison Marching Kazoo Band and Temperance Society. The Nor Cal Cruisers car show portion of the event will benefit the Citrus Heights Police Activities League (PAL) and is again expected to draw some 100 classic cars, Hansen said.

The car show is open to all vehicles with no model year restrictions. Show registration is $20. Pre-registration is encouraged, with additional information available at www.norcalcruisers.com.

The annual event is sponsored by the city of Citrus Heights, Sunrise Marketplace, Sunrise Recreation and Park District, Heritage Peak Charter School and radio stations 99.5 K-Love and 99.1. For more information visit sunriseparks.com or call 916-725-1585.
