Citrus Heights News Briefs: DUI checkpoint results, obituary, missing man

Latest local news briefs include results from the police department’s weekend DUI checkpoint, the death of a 9-year-old who was electrocuted while swimming in a pool, and the passing of a local Air Force veteran.

Citrus Heights police release results of latest DUI checkpoint
Police said a five-hour DUI and driver’s license checkpoint operation held on Auburn Boulevard Friday night resulted in 772 cars being screened, seven field sobriety tests administered, and no arrests for DUI. A total of 23 citations were issued for various violations during the operation, including eight for driving without a valid license. One no-bail arrest warrant was also reported, as well as one fresh arrest for narcotics. Police said three vehicles were also towed.

9-year-old girl dies after being electrocuted in Citrus Heights pool
KCRA 3 reported that McKenzie Kinley, 9, died Sunday after being electrocuted in her father’s swimming pool in Citrus Heights. The TV station said Metro Fire officials believe she was electrocuted “by a wire attached to one of the underwater pool lights under repair.” (See video)

Citrus Heights man missing after being swept away in South Yuba River
Thirty-four-year-old Alexander Alvarez and his 12-year-old daughter were reportedly swept away by the current in South Yuba River last Saturday, according to the Nevada County Union. The daughter was rescued, but Alvarez is still missing. (See story)

Obituary: Frederick Good (1929-2019)
Citrus Heights resident and Air Force veteran Frederick Good passed away on July 7 after a brief illness, according to his obituary published last week in the Sacramento Bee. Good served in Japan, Vietnam, Guam, Taiwan and the Philippines. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, three grandchildren and two great-grandsons. (See full obituary)
