Citrus Heights police said a Wednesday night fundraiser for Special Olympians at Elephant Bar resulted in the largest amount ever raised during the department’s annual “Tip A Cop” fundraiser.

Lt. David Gutierrez told The Sentinel that the three-hour May 15 fundraiser brought in at least $2,737 in tips, calling it “the most ever for a Citrus Heights event.”

In all, more than a dozen Citrus Heights officers, volunteers and Special Olympians were on hand at the Elephant Bar Restaurant on Sunrise Boulevard from 6 to 9 p.m., helping serve diners and passing along any tips to go towards the fundraiser.

Citrus Heights police participate annually in “Tip A Cop” fundraisers at various restaurants in town, each serving to raise funds for the Special Olympics Northern California. A four-hour fundraiser last year at Applebee’s in Citrus Heights brought in $1,617 in tips.
