CHPD: Additional DUI patrols to hit the streets for Cinco de Mayo

Sentinel staff report–
Citrus Heights police will be deploying additional patrols this weekend in an effort to curb drunk driving incidents on Cinco de Mayo.

“We understand the importance of this day to many people, but it does not give you an excuse to drink and drive,” Citrus Heights Police Department Sgt. Shaun Gualco said in a news release.

The department said extra officers will hit the streets from 12 p.m. to 4 a.m., “ready to stop and arrest drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.” Police also noted that DUI can include some prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications and marijuana.

Police said funding for the DUI enforcement comes from a California Office of Traffic Safety grant, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
