Helmet cam footage shows inside look at Citrus Heights garage fire

Sentinel staff report–
Metro Fire released helmet camera video footage on Monday showing response to a weekend garage fire in Citrus Heights from a firefighter’s perspective.

The two-minute video shows a first-person view, with audio, of a firefighter arriving to the scene of a blazing Citrus Heights garage fire on April 27. The firefighter, a captain from Metro Fire Station 21 on Greenback Lane, can be seen putting on a mask and conducting a search of the home while other crews work to pull off a garage door to get access to the fire and extinguish the blaze.

In a statement accompanying the video, Metro Fire said the footage “shows how firefighters align our tactics to support our priority of searching the building for victims in need of rescue while also conducting an offensive fire attack containing the fire to its origin.”

CBS 13 ran a story on Monday highlighting the video of the Citrus Heights fire, with additional interviews from Metro Fire on how the helmet camera videos are helping firefighters train.
