Sentinel staff report–
A clothing drive is currently underway through the end of April to benefit the Citrus Heights Homeless Assistance Resource Team’s annual winter sanctuary, which provides a rotating shelter for area homeless.
Diane Ebbitt-Riehle, the clothing drive’s organizer, said she spearheaded the effort after volunteering for HART’s winter shelter and learning that the cots provided to homeless guests were getting old and breaking. Through a partnership with California Clothing Recyclers and eight local businesses and agencies, she said clothing donations will be redeemed for a per-pound price and HART will receive a check at the end of the drive to be used for purchasing new cots for the next seasonal shelter.
Community members are asked to donate wearable clothing that is gently used, as well as shoes, linens, towels, hats, belts, and purses. Stuffed animals can also be donated, but pillows cannot.
