Citrus Heights Police Logs: shoplifting, window-smashers, transients on the roof

Latest police logs in Citrus Heights include reports of several transients living in tents on the roof of an animal hospital, window-smashers wearing “49er gear” burglarizing a vehicle at an apartment, and a group of teenage girls stealing makeup from Walgreens.

The following is a summary of select incidents listed in the Citrus Heights Police Department’s daily incident bulletins for Friday, Feb. 22, 2019. Links to additional bulletins are also included below.

Friday, Feb. 22, 2019: Total of 62 incidents listed.
Incident report categories of note: 17 calls regarding suspicious activities, 17 disturbance-related, 10 homeless/transient-related, 1 grand theft, 5 petty thefts, 1 burglary, 1 assault report, 3 collisions, one stolen vehicle, and two reports of domestic violence.

7:30 a.m., Vandalism, Brocade Dr. Police were advised by a caller that their unlocked vehicle was observed to have had its ignition damaged and the seat moved and in the reclined position. The caller advised that the vehicle would not turn on. The incident occurred on a sidestreet off Calvin Drive, near Mesa Verde High School.

9:26 a.m., Homeless Camp, Sunrise Animal Hospital on Sunrise Blvd.  Two tents were reportedly seen “on the roof” of the Sunrise Animal Hospital building with homeless individuals currently inside the tents.

9:59 a.m., Disturbance Loitering, Java Detour on Auburn Blvd. An ongoing issue with transients harassing employees at Java Detour in the early morning hours was reported to police. The transients had also reportedly become aggressive in their behavior and have been “pound[ing] on the drive thru window wanting items from the business.”

10:36 a.m., Disturbance Loitering, Dimple Records on Macy Plaza Dr. A man with dreadlocks and dark clothing was reportedly “smoking something from a glass pipe” in front of Dimple Records and was also “taking up three parking spots,” with his belongings spread all around him.

12:26 p.m., Petty Theft, Food Maxx on Sunrise Blvd. A man in his 30s reportedly threw two drinks at a caller after he was confronted for walking out of Food Maxx without paying for the drinks.

1:26 p.m., Intoxicated Person, Carl’s Jr. at  Tupelo/Antelope. An intoxicated man was reportedly “in the bathroom screaming” at Carl’s Jr. Police were advised that the man had also been going in and out of the restaurant and alcohol could be smelled on him.

1:46 p.m., Grand Theft, Cubesmart on Greenback Ln. Over $950 in tools and truck tires were reportedly stolen from a storage unit at Cubesmart on the 7500 block of Greenback Lane. Police were advised that the theft had occurred sometime in the past two months and entry was made by prying open the door of the storage unit.

3:43 p.m., Burglary Vehicle, Oak Creek Village Apartments on Greenback Ln. Police were called after two suspects wearing “49er gear” smashed a vehicle window at an apartment complex on the 7700 block of Greenback Lane. The pair were last seen fleeing on foot across an open field next to the apartments.

3:51 p.m., Vandalism, Big 5 Sporting Goods on Greenback Ln. A suspect with a knife reportedly “cut up product and door” at Big 5, and also approached a manager and customer while holding the knife, but didn’t threaten anyone. The incident was described as an attempted burglary, but the suspect “didn’t get away with any items.”

4:19 p.m., Vandalism, K’s Quik Mart on Auburn Blvd. Police were contacted after a woman refused to provide ID to purchase cigarettes and then got mad and reportedly threw a rock at the convenience store, causing damage to the glass.

4:54 p.m., Homeless Camp, Sunrise Golf Course on Arcadia Drive. A man called police to request assistance, but “refuse[d] to say what its about or provide anything further,” according to dispatcher notes in the incident log. When asked by police dispatch why he wouldn’t provide more information, he reportedly said “why should I.” The incident was listed as relating to a homeless camp. No other details were included.

9:18 p.m., Petty Theft, Walgreens at Greenback on Sunrise Blvd. A group of four teenage girls reportedly ran out of the Walgreens store at Greenback Lane and Sunrise Boulevard with a hand basket filled with makeup items. A cashier tried to stop the teens, but was unsuccessful.
