Tucked back in the far right corner of the Greenback Square shopping center, located near Fair Oaks Boulevard on Greenback Lane is a small shop called Cake & Candy Specialties. Their motto is “Where you can have your cake and eat it too!”
Owned and operated by Waldi and David Paige, they have been in this location for the last 10 years. You can always find Waldi there in the adjoining room making something good to eat or creating a custom cake for someone. David can usually be found in the shop on weekends.
They specialize in custom cakes for any occasion, but they also sell cupcakes, brownies, lemon bars and chocolate covered mints. Yum!
Weddings, birthdays, baby showers, you name it, they will bake it for you. Pirate ship-shaped cake, car-shaped, fish-shaped, multi-tiered wedding cakes, even egg-less cakes. Just checkout their website to see all the different shaped cakes they have made so far!
Waldi will sit down with you and go over your special needs and design for a custom cake or dessert.
Since each one is custom, time is needed ahead to put together your special baked goods, so be sure to give her a few weeks heads up before your next shindig.
But, if you can’t wait, Waldi always has something fresh baked like brownies or cookies to purchase and eat right there on the spot! They have a big chalkboard with the latest items for sale or items to eat.
If you’re a do-it-yourself kind of person like I am, you can shop for items like melting wafers, sprinkles, frostings, fillings and other cake decorating, truffle or candy making type things in bulk.
There are candy molds hanging on the wall, as well as different shaped cookie cutters — like unicorn heads or mermaid tails — colorful cupcake holders and other implements to help with your baking or treat making needs.
It’s fun to wander around the store and imagine all the things you could use while you’re putting together your own baked or candy concoctions.
I always leave this store feeling inspired to create as I bake. A great place to keep in mind for all your creative baking needs!
Cake & Candy Specialties is located at 8077 Greenback Ln., in Citrus Heights. They are open Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. The shop is closed Sundays and Mondays.
