Sentinel staff report–
A 25-year-old man is now behind bars, just two days after Citrus Heights police posted a photo of a gas station theft suspect on social media.
Citrus Heights police on Tuesday announced the arrest of Brodie Burks in connection with a Valentine’s Day incident, where he is accused of stealing over $3,000 in cigarette cartons from the Circle K gas station at the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and Antelope Road.
On Feb. 22, police had posted a surveillance image of a suspect connected to the theft, which was subsequently shared on Facebook more than 3,000 times. Police said Burks was arrested two days later, crediting tips from community members with helping lead to his arrest.
“Thanks to YOU, we found him TOGETHER!” police said in an update on Facebook, accompanied by a booking photo of Burks. Police said “numerous tips” had been received within a few hours of the surveillance photo being posted.
Online inmate records show Burks was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on Feb. 24 and is charged with felony burglary and two misdemeanor drug possession offences. His bail is set at $15,000. Records also show Burks has outstanding warrants from Placer County, involving unspecified felony and misdemeanor charges.
Police said the Citrus Heights theft occurred around 9:22 p.m. on Feb. 14, where the suspect allegedly entered the store with a camouflage bag and was able to stuff it full of merchandise “while the clerk was distracted.”
