Citrus Heights house fire displaces 6 residents
Metro fire crews responded to the scene of a garage and attic fire at a two-story home near Tempo Park, Thursday evening. The fire was reported knocked down within 10 minutes of crews arriving on scene, according to tweets posted by Sacramento Metro Fire. The agency said five adults and one child were displaced by the incident, with those affected being assisted by Red Cross. Two individuals were found inside the home during a search for victims, but no injuries were reported. A photo posted by Metro Fire showed visible flames and a plume of smoke coming from the home and garage, located on Bayberry Court. (See tweets)
23-year-old Citrus Heights man killed in New Year’s shooting
A Citrus Heights man was shot and killed on New Year’s Day during a dispute at a motel in San Bernardino, KTLA-5 reported Wednesday. Police responded to Golden Star Motel around 6:40 p.m. on Jan. 1, where the 23-year-old victim, Deante Williams was transported to a hospital and later pronounced deceased. The TV station said it was unclear what led up to the dispute. A description of the shooter was not known and no arrests had been made as of Wednesday, according to KTLA. Obituary: Former pastor of local Lutheran church passes away (1920-2019)
Robert Visser, who pastored Messiah Lutheran Church off Antelope Road from 1977 to 1985, passed away on Jan. 1, 2019. A memorial service will be held at the church on Jan. 8 at 11 a.m., followed by an internment at Mt. Vernon Memorial Park at 8201 Greenback Ln. The church announced Visser’s passing in a Facebook post on Wednesday and previously posted an update last month, stating he had suffered a major stroke.
According to an obituary published Jan. 5 in The Sacramento Bee, Visser was born in Washington State in 1920, graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary in 1946, and first pastored a church in Kansas before developing churches in California. He is survived by six of his seven children, along with 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. (See obituary)
