Sentinel staff report–
Police arrested a 66-year-old man after he allegedly shot and killed his roommate inside their Citrus Heights home on Friday night.

In a news release issued Saturday afternoon, police said a 9-1-1 call had been received just before midnight on Nov. 30 from a man who said he had just shot another man in his residence on the 6800 block of Trovita Way, located off Woodmore Oaks Drive near Sunrise Boulevard.

Responding officers located a man suffering from a single gunshot wound to the upper torso. He was transported to a local hospital by Metro Fire personnel, but was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Citrus Heights police detectives determined the suspect, Michael Patrick Ryan, and the gunshot victim were roommates and “related to one another.” Police said the two men were involved in a dispute that turned physical, during which Ryan “obtained a firearm and shot the victim in the upper torso.”

Police said Ryan remained on scene and was later booked into jail, where inmate records indicate he is charged with felony murder and is ineligible for bail. The weapon allegedly used was also located at the scene.

The incident is described by police as isolated, with no additional suspects. The identity of the victim was not released by police.

Police said residents are reminded to keep all firearms locked and secured in accordance with California State law. Information about firearms safety and owner responsibilities can be found on the California Department of Justice website.
