Sentinel staff report–
Live music along with all-you-can-eat barbecue and beverages will once again be served up outside the Rusch Home in Citrus Heights for the annual “Battle of the Bands & BBQ” fundraiser, set for Oct. 6th.
Commander Paul Reyes of American Legion Post 637, which has hosted the local event since 2015, said this year will feature three local bands and four area restaurants who will compete to win “the best BBQ and band,” voted on by attendees. Competitors will include Rebel Creek Band, On the Fly, and The Rubber Band, along with Dickey’s BBQ, Texas Roadhouse, Wild Wades, and Lew’s Smokehouse.
Tickets for the event run $20 per person, with kids age 12 and under free. Reyes said net proceeds will go to the Legion’s “Vets Helping Vets” fund, which assists homeless and in-need veterans and their families.
The Saturday event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 7301 Antelope Rd. Reyes said gates will open at 10:30 a.m., with an opening ceremony and the honoring of a Gold Star family starting at 11 a.m. Food will begin being served at noon.
The event annually attracts several hundred attendees and has helped raise over $10,000 in prior years. Tickets can be purchased in person at the event, or in advance at eventbrite.com.
