Fall is beginning to peek its head out from behind the glare of the California summer sun, bringing cooler temperatures and offering up all the makings for a perfect day to spend with your family — and just in time for the 22nd annual Sunday Funday event at Rusch Park.
With a variety of food trucks expected to be on hand cooking up their specialties for attendees to purchase, plan on taking a break from fixing Sunday lunch and maybe do some early Christmas shopping from among the over 70 vendors that will be on hand plying their wares.
According Michele Saario, the City’s event and community center technician, this year’s event, set for Sept. 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will feature motorcycle and K-9 demonstrations from the Citrus Heights Police Department, as well as the new addition of a petting zoo. She also said pony rides and a “tot area” will be available, ensuring a wide choice of activities for everyone in the family.
The Citrus Heights Historical Society will also open the Rusch Home for free tours during the event and, although visitors are welcome to wander about on their own, docents will be on hand for guided tours. Larry Fritz, president of the Society, also said working models of antique single-piston “hit ‘n miss” gas engines used to power farm equipment during days gone by will be on display outside the home.
Sunday Funday marks the end of the City’s outdoor summer events and is hosted through a partnership with the Sunrise Recreation and Park District and the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce, along with sponsors including Hot 103.5 and K-Love 99.5, who will be at the event.
